Horses Warm My Heart
I don't often get the opportunity to photograph horses - my favourite domestic animal - about even for 1st with dogs, cats being a close second!
I drive by the field these three are kept in every day between work and home - every day hoping that they'll be in a favourable position (ie: away from distracting man-made stuff) for photography. Today was the day!
Happily, the light was bright despite the falling snow, so it wasn't too much of a challenge ... and to make it even better, the black/bay and the skewbald came up to the fence to say hi! I'll be posting my favourite shot of the 10 minute session on my Facebook page, so mosey on over!
I'll be posting better-quality images on my Horses web page!

IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup - Panorama 2014
Much to my surprise, I was granted permission to shoot on-course (ie: inside the fences) at this Paralympic ski event held in Panorama, BC, this weekend. Imagine that, all I needed to do was ask!
Its an almost week-long event, and I managed to get up there for two days: Thursday, a training day for the downhill race, and Friday, the downhill race day.
There seemed to be a bit of confusion about what "inside the fences" means as defined by the person who granted permission for access, and the "juror" I had to check in with upon arrival at the course. This was complicated by the fact that I was accessing the course on foot instead of skiing to my preferred shooting station. Long story short, on Thursday I ended up shooting from just inside the course crew exit gate, just above the finish area, where I was far from any gates (turning points) on the course, and it was pretty much flat.
I had hoped to go up to a higher point on the course on the second day, but that area was socked in with fog and falling snow, so I decided to return to the previous day's spot. At least I'd have a chance of seeing some of the action from the lower vantage point, even if it was on a rather unexciting section of the course!
What really surprised and disappointed me was that a grand total of six people showed up to watch the racers as they arrived in the finish area at the end of the race. What a pity that these inspiring athletes just don't get the recognition that they so richly deserve!

2013 Ends ...
So, here we are again, at the end of another year!
It's also the end of another month - the second month of my new project. Here's the result:
As promised, the delay between photos is slightly longer this time, so that you can get a better look at each photo.
This series was taken from our "back" deck, off our bedroom.
I'll be picking a new "view" for January ... and I'm also starting a new 365 project - my third - tomorrow!
Here's wishing you and yours everything of the best in 2014 - particularly the things that are most important: Health, peace, and happiness!
See you next year!
Oh, by the way, if you're looking for some photo greeting cards (blank inside) to keep on hand "just in case" for 2014, I've for a 10% discount new year's offer running until January 5th on my Etsy website!

A New Project
After moving to our new house, I started a new project (truth be told, I was planning it before we even moved in!) - I will do a new one, each a little different, every month!
I'll be taking one photo from the same vantage point, with the same camera and lens, each day. Not necessarily at the same time of day, though!
Here's November's edition, for your enjoyment!
Next one will be out in early January!
